When you buy your first home, it’s more than just signing a contract—it’s the start of a whole new chapter. For Kenzie and Travis (and their adorable dog Willow), that chapter began right here in Asheville, NC, and I had the honor of capturing it with a cozy, candid new home photo session.
From Just Moved-In to Memories Made
Kenzie and Travis had just closed on their first home, thanks to my wife Mindy Coward, Asheville Realtor. We met shortly after moving to the area ourselves and became fast friends with these two. To celebrate their new beginning—and because everyone deserves beautiful photos of life’s big moments—we gifted them a couples lifestyle session in their empty house, before a single box was unpacked.
It was still a little chilly outside, but the light streaming through their big windows made the perfect moody backdrop inside. Even though I usually shoot outdoors, the soft spring light indoors created magic—and it was actually my first time photographing a couple and their pup!
Mimosa-Fueled Moments & Real-Life Joy
Kenzie admitted she was feeling overwhelmed with the move and wasn’t sure if she’d feel comfortable being photographed mid-transition. But with some good music, mimosas, and a relaxed documentary approach, we turned the afternoon into a celebration.
The photos show it all: their playful love, the excitement of a new space, and the warmth of starting something fresh. One of my favorite parts? The little details—like the house key, architecture close-ups, and Willow exploring her new kingdom.
Kenzie loved the results so much she used the images to announce their home purchase on social media.
